Tegucigalpa to Buenos Aires

Just to update everyone, we're now in Buenos Aires. Unfortunately, we had to leave the truck and fly from Tegucigalpa to Buenos Aires at a moment's notice. Julian's father was about to undergo surgery after suffering complete kidney failure and Julian wanted to be there. There was absolutely no point in continuing the trip when all we were going to do was worry about Julian's dad anyway. Sooo, a week and a half ago, we packed our clothes and put everything else in boxes to leave with the truck, and flew out (Note for Jackie: we flew on Copa Airlines, which was very weird after doing so many of their translations!).

To make a very long story short, Julian's dad has a blood clot in his renal artery. The surgery we came for was not successful, as the doctors were unable to remove the clot. Sadly, this means that he no longer has use of his kidneys and will have to undergo dialysis for the rest of his life (barring a miracle). Right now Angel (dad) is also dealing with a few set-backs, in the form of infections and some unexpected sypmtoms, so he's is still in the hopital.

As you can imagine, things are a bit chaotic right now. We've been going to the hospital almost every day since we got here and it's been hard to do anything else. Once the holidays are over and, hopefully, Angel is out of the hospital, we'll finish posting picture from the trip and include more anecdotes from the trip.

Before I close, I really want to thank Susana, Hernan, Bernardo and Isme in Tegucigalpa for everything they did for us while we were there. Through sheer luck, when we found out about Angel, we were in the best possible place - you see, the family has an international moving business (Gamundi), and they are now storing our truck for us and will send us the truck, along with our stuff. I can't, and honestly don't know how, to thank them enough - this is a huge weight off our shoulders in the middle of all this chaos. But, what I'm most grateful for was feeling like family, like I was really home, the entire time we were in Tegus. Juanca, thanks for sharing your incredibly wonderful family with us! :)

I'll try to post again if there's anything new with Angel. Thanks so much to all our incredible friends who found out about Angel through Facebook for the outpouring of support. Both Julian and I really, really appreciate it - it helps to know you're thinking of us. :)

I hope everyone has a fantastic holiday season and a very, very happy New Year!

Besos y abrazos,
Erika and Julian
